MORNINGSIDE HOUSE, SANDTON, JOHANNESBURG
Alterations and additions to an existing home for friends — a house that was dark, closed and cluttered with texture, in need of breathing space.
A large Low-E glass facade to the western entrance floods the interior with light, drawing the eye immediately to a gallery wall of beautiful art. The approach was to simplify and retreat — to create calm, uncluttered space that allows function and art to speak for themselves.
Existing mosaics set into the earthen floors were carefully preserved, their warmth and character now leaping out against the sleek white epoxy resin of the new surfaces.
